ON BECOMING TIGHTLY BOUND
Barbara Hashimoto uses the photographic medium to further her ideas on performance and process. On Becoming Tightly Bound follows the transformation of a handful of shredded architectural plans that have been treated with encaustic and acrylic paints and further subjected to manipulation and other media. Seven prints from this series depicting the mid-point of this journey are included in the FĪNĀLIS COMING exhibition.
Exploring the issues of paper waste, Hashimoto began working with discarded architectural plans concurrent with her work with junk mail during her early days as artist-in-residence at an architecture firm. On Becoming Tightly Bound has its origins in her 2008 work White Trash, an installation made from the paper used and discarded by the architecture firm during business operations over a four-week period.
